About the headmaster
David G ScottHaving started mid-year 2003, David Scott brings a wealth of professional teaching experience and knowledge to Newington. David was headmaster of Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie) in Brisbane for five years before accepting our invitation to become Headmaster of Newington. Churchie is Brisbane's leading Anglican boy's school with a fine reputation amongst Queensland's GPS Schools, offering preparatory and secondary schooling to 1700 boys. Prior to his Headmastership at Churchie, David was the Principal for four years at Kingswood Uniting Church School, Victoria and four years as Deputy Headmaster at Wesley College WA. In addition to his career in independent schools he served as a Headmaster and Deputy Headmaster for seven years and a Head of Department for fourteen years in government schools in Western Australia David has a Bachelor of Education in Physical Education and Economics from the University of Western Australia, a Master of Education in Education Psychology from Murdoch and holds a PostGraduate Diploma in Business Management from Edith Cowan University. He is involved and interested in curriculum renewal, boys' learning methodology and value added measures of school effectiveness. He is an active member of various professional associations and was an Executive member of the Association of Independent Schools of Queensland and Chairman of their Education Committee. Recently he and the Deputy Headmaster Grant Williamson attended a seminar discussing boys education in Australia. He has interests in the visual arts and music and his last two schools were highly regarded for their programs in these areas. David's personal sporting interests are rowing, yachting and AFL. As a student in WA he played most sports and excelled in athletics, swimming, basketball and AFL. After his school days he was the WA State Youth Sailing Coach and a competitor in sailing at State, National and International levels in Tornado Catman class finishing in the top three in state on several occasions. He also achieved placings at the National level in Endeavour 26s and won the Nacro 5.8 title in 1985. David has also won Masters rowing events in State and National competitions and coached schoolboy crews. He rowed in the VIIIs, IVs and Pairs winning state Titles and places and won the National Title in the VIIIs, 2nd in Pairs and 3rd in IVs. The Headmaster and his wife Linda, both originally from WA, have two children and two grandchildren. David is also enjoying the challenge of improving his golf and aims to achieve a lower handicap than his wife Linda.
