Motivated TO UNITE

Tolerance and acceptance of our multi-cultural heritage is fundamental to our values.

Newington was founded as school of the Methodist Church and is now part of the Uniting Church in Australia, which is inclusive of people of all religious traditions.

Though our primary beliefs are Christian-based, our emphasis on cultural and religious diversity means that we embrace all races and religions. Tolerance and acceptance of our multi-cultural heritage is fundamental to our values. Boys have the opportunity to mix with an eclectic group of individuals and understand that society relies upon cooperation, communication and strong interpersonal relationships with a commitment to respect for others at all times.

Newington has two chaplains who oversee Chapel services and the spiritual well-being of the boys, staff and the community.

The Newington Chapel reflects the inclusive nature of our beliefs, with the names of famous scholars lining the walls and items of worship from many faiths featuring throughout the chapel.

Religious education explores the full spectrum of faiths and challenges boys to view religion from an academic, spiritual and moral perspective.

Newington aims to promote values of community contribution and care for others through our service and pastoral care programs. When Newington boys feel well cared for it is important for them to reach out to others to engage in efforts that add to community well-being.

Such service may take the form of fundraising but more importantly in giving up time to assist in local schools or by coaching a team. Newington’s Duke of Edinburgh and Cadets programs place significant emphasis on community involvement and the International Baccalaureate specifically includes elements of community involvement .
