Motivated TO EXPRESS

Boys playing guitars

The aim is to develop boys at all ages who can work with each other, think, problem solve, empathise, create, do and communicate

Boys are encouraged to develop an appreciation for the arts and to find ways to express their creativity through our well developed music, drama and visual arts programs.

The study of the creative arts in its many forms helps to foster an awareness and understanding of other cultures and their wealth of traditions.

Music classroom and performance programs at Newington offer boys a range of exciting and challenging opportunities. Music programs start at the kindergarten level to emphasise the importance of music in developing well-rounded young men.

The Music department manages a comprehensive tutoring program and throughout the year holds a number of concerts which showcase the talents of the school’s various student ensembles, orchestras and choirs.

Visual Arts programs allow boys to unleash their creativity and help explore cultural, structural and subjective mediums. The Visual Arts departments at each campus offer a wide program from the traditional to computer graphics.

Drama is an integral part of the free expression of boys and develops confidence, leadership, teamwork and communication skills. The aim is to develop boys at all ages who can work with each other, think, problem solve, empathise, create, do and communicate. Our drama programs are designed to provide boys with an experience of the art form, both in individual performance and in group-devised improvisational work, as well as opportunities to develop their personal interests in acting, production, directing, writing or research for older boys. Regular productions are an integral part of the Newington calendar.

Film clubs, art clubs and drama clubs support the in class programs.
