The Newington Community

Newington Community Spirit

Newington College is committed to supporting and working with local and international community organisations, both to give something back, and to encourage understanding amongst our students of the issues and challenges faced in the wider world.

This is a natural extension of our appreciation of the value of nurturing our Newington community, including staff, students, and their families, council members and old boys. The school has a number of dedicated and hard-working groups, which provide opportunities for members of the community to take part in the life of the College, while enhancing the lives of our students.

As well as the Parents & Friends Association and its subsidiaries, there are a number of sporting and cultural groups who play a vital role in supporting programs and events.

There is a very active Old Newingtonians' Union (ONU), a College Foundation and an alumni network of almost 10,000 old boys.

The Newington community includes:
• Present parents, staff and students
• The Parents and Friends Associations and related support groups
• Old Boys of the College
• ONU and related Old Boys' organisations
• Past staff and parents
• Present and past Council members and friends of the College

Community Events Planning

For an event to be organised at Newington, the following steps need to be followed:

• Initial contact is to be made with Andrew Hirst on 9568 9322 or Lindsay Raven on 9568 9409. Contact should be made as far in advance as possible, preferably by November, before the diary for the following year is finalised.

• A basic outline of the function on the 'Event ApplicationForm' should be forwarded in either hard copy or electronic form to Lindsay Raven, who will then liaise with the relevant school staff and seek appropriate approval.

• If, after discussion, the function is approved and a date is confirmed, a copy of this sheet with relevant amendments will be placed in the appropriate ‘Associations’ mailbox outside the Colonnades.

• It will then be necessary to complete the 'Event Setup form'.
