Co-curricular

Providing a rich diversity of activities Newington College believes fervently in providing boys with a holistic education. Catering for all aspects of a young boy’s development, opportunities are provided in:

Sport

This is compulsory for all boys from Years 3 – 6, with boys engaged in sports including cricket, basketball, soccer, rugby, swimming, cross country, athletics, softball and t-ball, tennis and fencing against other independent schools in NSW. Regular Interhouse carnivals and combined Prep Schools competitions are a feature of the ongoing program.

The Creative and Performing Arts

A firm foundation for Newington’s acknowledged strength in the Arts is laid within Lindfield/Wyvern House. A Strings program operates in Year 3 and a Winds program in Year 4. Challenging opportunities also include joining the Chapel Choir or other choral group, the orchestra, one of the ensembles, or just learning musicianship. A dynamic Art program is an essential part of the learning for all boys and culminates in boys’ work being exhibited at various exhibitions annually.

Outdoor Education

Students in Years 3 – 6 participate in Outdoor Education activities at various camps sites, varying from an overnight stay to a full school week. The program enhances the general and social development of boys, as well as developing appropriate leadership skills in a non-competitive context.

Clubs

The co-curricular program also includes offerings for boys in Years 2 – 6 in various clubs, namely, Chess, Debating, Robotics and Computing, Science, and Dance and Drama. Boys are encouraged to be involved in these activities as they complement the important classroom teaching and learning environment.
