Newington College

Newington College – Lindfield is set in beautiful bush-land where the boys are constantly in touch with their natural environment. A boutique school geared entirely to the particular learning and emotional needs of boys there is one class at each level, with class sizes ranging from 20 at Kindergarten to 24 in Year 6.

Each classroom is extremely well resourced and includes provision for the latest, most effective information technology tools. There are also specialist facilities for Music, Art and Library, as well as spacious and creative play areas for the boys to engage in active and healthy play activities. Such areas include a basketball/tennis court, grassed play spaces and a swimming pool. The boys are serviced by a tuckshop three days/week.

There is an Outside School Hours Care Program which operates from 3.00–6.00pm, each school day.

Newington Significantly Enhances Boys' Learning

Newington College’s Preparatory School at Lindfield has installed a revolutionary new sound system that will have a significant impact on improving learning outcomes for boys at the school.

Normally, from the back of the room, students only hear 80% of what is being said. The key difference of this system is that it uses infra-red light waves to project sound. With the microphone on the teacher, 100% of what is being said can be heard by all boys in the room.

Research shows when messages are heard more clearly, it can improve a child’s learning by up to 33%. One Year 6 teacher has found that the boys are now much quieter, so he has trained himself to talk more softly. There is no need to project his voice to the back of the room any more, which has the added benefit of reducing vocal fatigue.

It is not only the teachers who have a microphone. The boys also have their own microphone for times when they have to address the class, such as sharing their news, or delivering a PowerPoint presentation.
