CURRICULUM

Wyvern Boys
As learners, they are empowered to imagine, create and achieve.

The aim is to achieve a balance between academic achievement, personal development and social responsibility

Wyvern House aims to provide a well balanced liberal education, with emphasis on the full development of each boy's potential. The pursuit of excellence in all endeavours is sustained through programs which recognise the needs, rights and responsibilities of individual students. Wyvern House students learn within the NSW Board of Studies Syllabuses for English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Social Studies, Creative and Practical Arts, and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education.

Significant learning experiences are provided in Religious Education, Art, Music and Computers, while further enrichment programs are provided by visiting Secondary School staff, principally in Mathematics, Science and Physical Education.

For sports such as swimming, athletics and soccer, Wyvern House boys have access to the grounds and facilities of the Newington main campus. Wyvern also uses the Secondary School facilities for such occasions as services in the Newington Chapel, parent receptions, social events and Speech Day. Safe student movement to and from the main campus is enhanced through the use of a footbridge over Stanmore Road.

Music

Music at Newington is a whole-of-school program, run from the Music Centre in the Secondary School. Information regarding Instrumental Tuition, Ensembles and specialised music teaching offerings at the K-6 prep schools may be found in the Secondary School > Creative Arts section.
