Art Club

Each Monday afternoon the Art Department is abuzz with creative energy courtesy of some very talented and enthusiastic Year 7 students. Art Club has become quite an institution at Newington, providing students with the ability to broaden their artistic knowledge, develop their skills and impress us all with their wonderful work outside of class time.

This year we have responded to the overwhelming interest our current group has expressed in computer generated work. They have already mastered Flash, a fantastic program that allows students to create animated images. The boys created a superb range of hybrid creatures, demonstrating a sophistication and understanding of technology well beyond their years.

This group is currently in the process of creating Clay-mation videos. This involves filming a story using hand-made clay characters and stop-motion filming. Quite an involved process, there is little doubt that this group is up to the challenge as they have already demonstrated enthusiasm and dedication that is sure to see very entertaining and rewarding results. The students have already created extremely interesting scripts and story boards and we wait to see what will undoubtedly be some truly inspired viewing.

Art Exhibitions

The Art Department has continued to provide a platform for our students to display their incredible work. Our on going exhibitions in the colonnades showcase the talent, erudition and sophistication of our students and demonstrate the diversity and excellence of their art.

Students have hands-on experience in assisting in the curation of their pieces and are rewarded for their hard work in seeing it displayed so proudly. These on going monthly displays are also featured during a variety of school functions including Parent-Teacher evenings and will be supplemented with two large scale end of year events centered around the Year 12 Body of Works and the IB Major Works.

We extend our invitation to all interested in viewing the spectacular work of our marvelous students.
