Welcome to Newington Drama

Drama at Newington

Drama at Newington College has a long tradition of both quality classroom work and performance excellence.

Drama is recognised as a means of allowing each student to explore, understand and effectively communicate ideas, feelings and values. Moreover, many students who choose drama as an elective are in the advanced streams of other subjects.

Newington College is fortunate in having the Old Chapel, a heritage building which has undergone a sympathetic conversion exclusively for Drama use. This multi-purpose performance and workshop space seats over 130, has an extensive lighting rig and is used for a variety of stage configurations, from classic proscenium arch to theatre in the round.

The Drama Department office is also housed in the Old Chapel, together with significant props and costume storage. Two classrooms adjacent to the Old Chapel are used for drama workshops and class lessons.
