The Literacy Support Program
The Literacy Support Program provides quality support to Heads of Department, classroom teachers, students and parents in improving the literacy skills of students across Years 7-12. Mrs Lizelle Leclair is the full-time literacy support teacher who leads this program at the secondary school.
In her role, Mrs Leclair:
- Analyses the results of the Year 7 grading test, the NAPLAN tests and all school based examinations in order to identify those boys that may require some form of literacy support
- Tests boys referred to her by both teachers and parents, when they feel that a literacy support program would prove beneficial
- Implements both group and individual literacy support programs as required
- Uses standardised tests to monitor the success of the programs she puts in place
- Assists those students that qualify for the HSC ESL course
- Regularly team teaches with other members of staff in order to provide immediate support to students in the classroom environment
- Works across all academic departments, not only English, as every subject has a significant literacy component
- Works particularly with students from the Senior School in improving essay writing technique
- Readily incorporates the use of ICT into the literacy support programs
