Welcome to the Science Department

Newington College has nine laboratories, each catering for Science from Year 7 to Year 12. All Science lessons are conducted in laboratories or computer-equipped resource rooms, allowing for considerable flexibility in teaching programs, classroom practice and student learning.

Practical work in all courses is complemented by the ample provision of both commonplace and specialised Science equipment.

Where possible, relevant technologies, including computers, are used to support teaching programmes and practical work. Computers are increasingly used by students for data acquisition and analysis, for access to information sources, for access to CDROM learning packages and for computer-based presentations.

The Head of Science at Newington is Craig Seawright

The Siemens Science Experience

These hands-on science, engineering and technology programs will be conducted again in Australian universities in 2008/2009, for students who will be entering Year 10 in 2009. Each program is run over three days and includes a wide variety of practical activities, together with interesting presentations by leading scientists and engineers.
This Rotary Youth Services Project is fully supported by the Australian Science Teachers Association. The cost of the three-day program is $105 (includes GST). Local Rotary clubs are often willing to pay this fee.

The closing date for the UNSW program is 22 August 2008, however early application is advised. Any Year 9 student is welcome to apply.

Further information and application forms are available from Mr Seawright in the Science Department, Rotary clubs and from www.scienceexperience.com.au
