MATHEMATICS
Welcome to the Mathematics DepartmentThe general aims of the Mathematics Department are to develop and enhance the students' confidence and enjoyment in doing mathematical activities, their knowledge, skills and understanding of syllabus-based content as well as their awareness of the place of mathematics in solving problems of everyday life and in contributing to the development of our society. These aims are pursued in the knowledge that students learn best when motivated and that they learn mathematics as individuals within a context of intellectual, physical and social growth. The Mathematics Department ensures that students’ learning needs are catered for. For gifted students an acceleration program is in place. The four years of curriculum from Year 7 to Year 10 is condensed into three years. This gives these students the benefits of commencing senior study while still in Year 10. In the A stream class, additional enrichment is included in the curriculum. For students who have learning difficulties in maths there are small classes and group work to address issues in learning. The Head of Mathematics is Mr Gary Davies, Further InformationSyllabus:
