YEAR 7 PROGRAM

The transition from primary to secondary school is a vital part of a boy's development. Newington attracts boys from all parts of Sydney and beyond and it is not uncommon for a boy to be the only one from his primary school coming to the College. Therefore we strive to provide experiences that ease boys into their new environment and to set up a support network to assist them once they are here.

It is important to establish a connection between boys and their peers as well as their teachers and the school in general. Newington's transition program is set up with these aims at the forefront.

During their time in Year 7 we also work hard to enhance this connectedness across the curriculum. Teachers with the appropriate skills meet regularly with the boys to establish these links and to reinforce 'emotional intelligence' in the boys. These elements are the core of Newington's Pastoral Care System.
