YEAR 7 STRUCTURE
As part of the Pastoral Care Program at Newington, all boys in Year 7 are under the direct supervision of the Head of Year 7, Mr John Ioannou The Year 7 tutors are also one of the boys’ class teachers, which allows for the welfare and progress of each boy to be constantly monitored, not only in the allocated tutor time but in regular class time as well. There is a strong emphasis on providing positive reinforcement and a safe and secure environment for the students. Tutors with the skills to achieve this are specially chosen for Year 7. Each tutor also acts as a first point of contact for parents. After Year 7 the boys are allocted into Houses on a random basis or according to a prior relationship – eg. father, brother.
