Training

There are three main aspects to the Cadet Unit's training program:

Home Training & Field Days

– skills such as mapping, first aid, water safety, radio procedure, canoe safety and handling, basic abseiling, knot work and basic weapons handing are accompanied by activities in the school's rifle range and use of the Unit's archery equipment.

Annual Camp

– is a continuous form of training which takes place in the last week of Term 1 2010. The skills learnt during home training are then put into practice. Other skills such as bush survival, camp craft, as well as some adventure and initiative games take place.

Promotion Courses

– These are voluntary courses of three progressive levels which allow Cadets to seek higher rank and eventually become Unit Leaders. The first step in this process is available to you in the near future when the Junior NCO Course begins. For any information regarding this course ask your platoon commander or MAJ(AAC) Dean who is the senior instructor of the course.

Major Training Activities

Home Training

These activities are designed to give an introduction to Cadet activities, general theoretical information and an insight into Cadet organisation and administration.

These activities include: first aid, water safety, roping safety, knots, motor maintenance, weapons safety and shooting, archery safety and usage, mapping and orienteering, radio procedures, climbing, unit organisation and trek planning.

These areas are assessed both practically and with a written test.

Promotions Training

Selected candidates are given more in depths training in Home Training topics. In addition, more specific administrative procedures and field Training are incorporated into a more intense timetable.

Field Days

This extends and puts into practice the skills gained during Home Training. It allows CUOs and sergeants to obtain knowledge of the platoons dynamics and to prepare Cadets for Annual Camp.
