All boys in Years 9 and 10 at Newington College take part in either Cadets or Newington Challenge.

Cadets

Cadets activities include archery, bushcraft & bivouacking, canoeing, climbing, drill, first aid, lifesaving, mapping & orienteering, motor maintenance, personal health & hygiene, radio, rifle-shooting and roping and leadership training through the ranking structure.

Newington Challenge

Participants in Newington Challenge take part in a program designed to stimulate their interests in a variety of challenging activities. These may include abseiling, first aid, mountain-bike riding. canoeing, archery, scuba diving and bushcraft. Year 9 boys attend a two-day camp over the June Queen's Birthday Long Weekend.

Duke of Edinburgh's Awards Scheme

Boys in either group may also be invited to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Awards Scheme (DEA).
