Newington College -The St Andrew's Cup champions

2009 St Andrew’s Cup

This year’s Cup was played on 23 and 24 April 2009 at Oakhill College, Castle Hill. The competition included 15 leading football schools from the GPS, ISA and CAS competitions and strong teams such as Riverview, Trinity, Waverley, Grammar and High.

Newington took a squad of 20 prospective Firsts and Seconds players for 2009. Newington went undefeated in their group games beating St Spyridon 6–0, St Patrick’s, Strathfield 3–2, Shore School 4–0 and Waverley College 3–2. We progressed to the Grand Final where we played St Pius winning 2–0.

It was the first time that Newington had won this tough pre-season tournament.

Overall, the whole tournament was a great success and all the boys should be commended for their fantastic commitment, professionalism and passion for their school. Well done all, on a fantastic achievement.
