ROWING HEAD OF THE RIVER
THE GPS HEAD OF THE RIVER REGATTAIn 2008 the Head of the River Regatta was held on 19 March at the Sydney International Rowing Course (Penrith Lakes) at Penrith. This year the Newington First VIII came second behind Shore, with St Joseph's third. The course is located a few kilometres north of Penrith along the Castlereagh Road towards Windsor. This is a very pleasant occasion to mix with all members of the Newington community and support our crews on their big day. All boys are expected to attend and support our GPS crews on this day. The school provides buses for transport to the venue and a free shuttle bus operates between the car park and the viewing area. Families should bring chairs or a blanket, together with a picnic lunch. Food is available at the venue, however queues are generally long. Newington is usually allocated a limited number of seats in the spectator pavilion that looks over the last 100 metres of the course. These provide the very best view of the regatta and most areas of the pavilion are in the shade. Tickets allow spectators to walk to and from the Newington marquee, operated by the Rowing Association. The dress for boys is either summer or winter uniform, with blazer outfit preferred. If it is hot, coats and blazers may be removed. For further information contact the MIC of Rowing, Simon Pennington, on 0416 262 241 or email s.pennington@newingtoncollege.nsw.edu.au. For more information regarding the practicalities of attending the Head of the River please refer to the Black & White 12 March 08.
