NEW in 2008: Community Service Program

Academic work in the classroom is only one strand in a boy's development. Newington's aim is "to provide a well-balanced liberal education nurturing the personal and spiritual development of its pupils, and assisting them to grow towards the full stature of responsible citizenship." To this end, an emphasis is placed on pastoral care as a way to nurture and mould boys' whole growth.

A major part of a boy's experience at Newington is his House. Houses are made up of Tutor/Mentor Groups, in which each individual boy feels secure, and where a staff member can get to know him well – the House system has evolved over many years and works well. For more information, select the HOUSE SYSTEM link.

In addition to staff engaged in pastoral work through the House system, Newington employs other specialist staff, in particular a Chaplain and two qualified School Counsellors. Whenever a significant problem is identified, a member of staff makes contact with boys' parents.

Newington also has in place a clear policy and procedures for handling bullying, including a confidential email address available to boys if they are harrassed. For details and a copy of the policy, use the 'Anti-Bullying' link, to the right.

We feel it is essential that staff and parents work together to foster each child's development so that he may grow towards an appreciation both of himself and of his place among his peers.

If you have any enquiries, feel free to contact the Head of Senior School, Mr Paul Bourke or the Head of Middle School, Mr Jeff Snare.
